I have some springs that are a perfect fit for a guide stem and I have a load of screw-fixed guides with extra long stems that are perfect candidates to make into sprung guides for my rally cars.
The springs are way too long but I have the means to cut them accurately.
The springs are a little stiff and I was wondering if there is anything that can be done to make them a bit softer?
They are made from carbon steel so I trawled up my metalwork memories from about 40 years ago and wondered if some form of heat treatment might help make them less stiff.
I have quite a few of these so I don't mind wrecking a few trying things out.
Any helpful advice gratefully received
