Let's talk about concours...

Hi
Im following on from Erik M's topic 'When is' on this sub-forum, where I raised the point of concours.

I have been to many an event where cars that are just simple repaints have won concours, or finished very respectfully, ahead of cars which have had a lot of effort put in, such as resin or GFK bodies which have had extensive clean up work, right to fully scratch made bodies, which have been carved or 3D printed and then cast in resin or GFK.

One example I have remembered is during one race in, where I had taken a cast of a Fly 917 body, make extensive modifications to make it look right, cast it in GFK and did one of my best paint jobs on it. It was beaten in the concours, by a repainted car, which had been made by someone else (not the driver), for a price. It was a lovely looking car, however not as much effort had been put in as my 917, and many other models made by superb car builders.

In my opinion, repaints should not be in the running for winning concours, because the time, effort and even money, isn't as much as the effort spent to build a totally scratch made car (using th definition above). I personally feel sometimes that the many man hours spent, is irrelevant if it's going to be beaten by a repaint.

I also think the voting of a concours should not be by a committee, but by every racer, as otherwise you don't see the gorgeous models.

So what do you think? The reason I ask, is because maybe our comments can influence how future events are run.
Regards
J
