1927 Alvis GP

I have finally managed to make myself a version of my 1927 Alvis straight 8.

Its been an interesting car to work on only one chassis survives and some body panel's under the stewardship of members of the Alvis club. In fact Bill Boddy had the metal disc for the racing number on his shelves and gifted it back to the current owners. The existing Chassis has been cut about as a 1929 Le mans engine had been “fitted”. Tony Cox has been very helpful with pictures of the car and his sketch of the existing chassis which allowed me to scale the car.
The race cars were front wheel drive and the engine redesigned from the 1925 and 1926 car. Two were built but time and money meant they arrived at Brooklands for the British GP under prepared. the rules changed so they became obsolete except for formula Libra racing. Much of what happened to them was lost as were the cars them selves until this one chassis surfaced. Its under rebuild but the owners had a dilema I only dream of whether to recreate a 1929 le Mans car around the engine or a 1927 GP around the chassis.

The model Like the original is Front wheel drive which has made the build interesting balancing grip with keeping the guide down.

And now the running bits. I used a Penelope Pitlane narrow chassis turned around with a brass drop arm, The Slot it deep guid has been cut down to help it fit under the front of the car and the crown gear. it would have been so much easier to make this rear wheel drive but hey not in the spirit of the thing.
