I'm slowly getting all my old cars going again as I have enough amperage to make them go properly. I got a delivery from Bruno at Slotcarstyres this morning so have been able to dump the spongies that give no grip whatsoever without goop.
This is one of only two cars I have that still have Taylormade gears fitted. I have one set spare and can't decide what to fit it on as yet. This 40 year old car is frighteningly fast. I seem to recall doing a thing or two to the Parma motor that is fitted. It almost stops dead with the brakes and shuffles sideways a little. BUT....it runs in total silence apart from the noise of the tyres!! The mesh on the gears is so smooth, all you can feel is the notching of the magnets grabbing the armature as you revolve the wheels. I was never that neat at building but I was more worried about speed back then (probably still am really)
The SlotiT gears I have come closest but really I just can't believe there is anything out there readily available to this standard. How I wish Howard was still around to get some more made. There must be a small engineering factory like the one in Clerkenwell that Howard use that could make some. I wonder if there would still be a big enough market to make it worthwhile. Howard used to have them made in hundreds at a time, possibly thousands. When I used to collect the boxes, they filled the back of his Minivan!
