1931 Bugatti Type 54

Here’s the story of my latest builds using the Shadowfax kit for the Bugatti Type 54. These big 5 litre Bugatti’s made their debut at Monza in 1931 driven by Achille Varzi and Loius Chrion. These two are from the 1933 Avusrennen where Varzi won Europe fastest race by a fraction of a second over his team mate Count Czaykowski in the sister Type 54.

So as with the rest of my range all the cars start out as balsa blocks…

Basic shaping…

The T54 is the yellow one here..

Some detail starting to get added…

Then it get’s to a certain point where I take a resin cast and add further detail….

Until I get to point where I think its ready to make production tooling to make kits…

Finished kits all vacuum cast in-house…

So working with the kits first job is to get the body mounted and primed ready for colour…

Top coats on..

Then some detail paint and some light weathering…

Both sit on the Shadowfax Golden Era chassis with steering, one I’ve painted blue just to see what it looked like, not sure which one I like best.

From balsa block to running slot cars in one post! Anyway I hope you like them (photo's of the finished cars are poor with my new camera they all come out to bright/with glare etc.)..
