3D Printing Developments

I just want to post up some new developments in 3D printing which might finally make home 3D printing of slot car bodies a reality. I have built a couple of 3d printers (FDM type) but this new batch might be what makes the leap to good quality parts. SLS powder sintering is used by a few people here, but the parts can be dusty and take some finishing.

There are a few home machines now using the DLP technique which cures liquid resin by UV light becoming available. Also as the source material is liquid there is less waste and you are not paying for surrounding powder. Resin price has now dropped so it is affordable. They also do rubber like resin for flexible parts. It might also be possible to print clear parts which would be handy instead of vac forming windows. Also as luck would have it most of them have a working envelope which is just big enough for 1/32 cars!

M-One

The M-One is probably my favourite, but the silicon base needs replacing a lot, but there are many others with tilt resin beds and also a few DIY kits about. There is also a very cheap one called the peachy printer for $100 which although doesn't do the best prints might be improved soon to be useful.

Please post up if you see any other interesting machines as I believe by the middle of next year there should be a few more of these hitting the market.

Couple this with the 3D scanners and Blender 3D software and soon I might be able to throw away my milliput and sandpaper!
