Over the years many of my scratch built cars have been Proto creations. This 1954 Maserati A6GCS Berlinetta is another. For me, it was lust at first sight. Chris really captured the svelt lines of this rare Maserati. Rather than going with any of the prepainted kits issued I got an unpainted version. One, was a French Blue over French Blue car (I believe ran in the Mille Miglia). The 2 tone looked really good to me... very 50s but I wanted something more... Italian. The body arrived in wonderful shape, only requiring a minimum of prep prior to painting. I chose Ferrari Red and Royal Maroon, over a red oxide primer... alkyd lacquers from Model Car World. I went with a period driver's head from Immense Miniatures (Kirk Douglas, again) because I wasn't enamored with what came with the car. The driver figures sent were pretty good but I'm very persnickety when it comes to who gets behind the wheel of my scratch builds.
Underneath the resin is a brass chassis with Slotit recessed inline pod, the design was based on the fine work I saw on a TLOR 2015 proxy entry which literally ran away from the pack taking top honors. At the moment power comes from a Scaleauto 20K short can with Sloit pinion and offset crown. Wheels are BRM wire wheels, painted Ferrari Red (I thought it would look cooler and more "period" than leaving them unpainted)
The 1/1 A6GCS had a 2 litre engine so if I down gun the motor I could run it with the small bore cars in the next TLOR proxy.
