Brabham BT34

A favourite grand prix car of mine, the 1971 Brabham BT34 which Graham Hill raced that season. The team lacked finance and Hill wasn't quite the force he once was but it was a good looking car and on occasion Hill showed real speed in it, sadly poor realibility prevented a few potentially good results.

Back in those days UK enthusiasts could see a lot of live F1 around the various circuits and I saw this car race on four occasions at the Race of Champions, International Trophy, British Grand Prix and the Victory Race although I only took photographs at two of the events.

The car on its debut at the Race of Champions at Brands Hatch, Hill retired but set the fastest lap.

In the pit road during practice - I should have adjusted the shutter speed.....

My slot car. A "Classic" fibreglass shell with added airbox and rear wing made from plastic sheet fitted on a Penelope Pitlane chassis. The car has been very hurriedly built for a new F1 class at the Southend Slot Racing Club so it isn't detailed and I have hand painted it with Humbrol tinlets rather than spraying as it's been far too cold for the last couple of weeks to spray paint outdoors
