This model is based upon the 1955 Targa Florio Moss/Collins Mercedes 300SLR. Following Moss's early excursion, Peter Collins was able to quickly make up time and the pair went onto victory. The model has been completed in 'finish line' appearance in an attempt to represent the the damage sustained on route to their famous win.

I've built my model using one of Dave Jones' very fine 3000SLR shells. I was a little apprehensive about knocking it about to get the damaged look, but it seemed the right thing to do if wanting to achieve the look and feel of the car that competed in the Targa Florio. It's been built according to the IPS Proxy rules using the versatile plastic PCS chassis, BWA motor and Slot.it gears/pinion. The wire wheels are by Peter Seager-Thomas and shod with Ninco Classic tyres.
