Floppy fronts!!

Quite apart from the fact that most of our friends out here seem to have such things.......too much time on their hands and too much food and wine no doubt....... I really hate the front axles on many modern slot cars. Apart from the fact that the axles are solid, they seem to have half an inch movement up and down.

I have two PCS chassied cars and put some brass tube in today and the handling is transformed. Instead of tipping over at every opportunity, they now slide instead which is at least controllable. I have always thought that front wheels should touch the track and be independent and have a quiet moan to myself when I see people saying that they set the wheels just clear.

I assume this is all down to magnets. On the routed track all the cars perform much better with all four wheels providing stability. Even with the stupidly shallow guides used, they now perform adequately if not exactly earth shatteringly. I have seen some deeper guides for wooden tracks so may try some of those too at some point.

Oh dear oh dear..it wasn't like this in my day etc. etc!
