1.8 mm LED Exhaust lights...?

Hi Folks,
Hope this is the right forum for this.

I want to build a dragster in 1/24 (or 1/25) . It is a special, modified class. Basically the front half is a van and the back half is a Top Fueller...

I wanted to put little LEDs in the exhaust pipes so that when you look down down on the model you see flames in the pipes.

There are exhaust light kits around but they usually just flash (usually when brakes are applied).
I want these to more or less run all the time and even get brighter as the throttle is applied (ideally).

I have found a lot of 3 mm LEDs that simulate flame that I can wire directly (with resistors) but I am thinking I need to go down to 1.8 mm to make them fit in the exhaust pipes (maybe even seat them near teh end so they are more visible).

I have not found any lights that "flicker" in 1.8 but I did find a module usually used in train sets to similar a camp fire.

My thinking was I could maybe hide the module in the body and wire up the 1.8s but I am a novice at this and I am also not sure the space would be sufficient...

So has anyone seen 1.8 mm flickering LEDs?

Or am I bat guano crazy?
:-)
Have a good weekend!
