Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I'm far from an exibtionist. Whilst it's nice to share the results of my work these "How To.." type topics are mostly intended to encourage members to try scratchbuilding (if it raises awareness of CSCRA racing so much the better). In my previous topic on the Ferrari 246P I used a minimum of tools and skill and produced, I hope, a reasonable looking model, although a modicum of skill is useful it only really stops one making mistakes twice. If you follow others advice (no shortage on this forum) and apply alot of patience anyone should be able to produce a fair model that can be made competative with some "fettling".

One of the things that is true about resin kits (also generally true of life) is "you get what you pay for" and the Ferrari was an easy build because the kit provided was such good quality (body and chassis was 70 euros). A fair number of people who want to try scratchbuilding go for a "cheap" kit first with the, quite reasonable, argument that they don't want to ruin an expensive kit on thier first try. Don't worry - resin takes quite well to being stripped back and the cheaper resin bodies can take a deal of work to get a good result.

So expect to pay at least £80 to get a model finished if your going to use racing quality running gear. Good models can be had from Shadowfax, Penelope Pitlane, LMM and many others. In this case I starting off with a George Turner model which is both excelent quality and reasonably priced at £38 for body and chassis (we'll keep and eye on cost as we go along).

I've always fancied building a model of Bo Ljungfeldt's Monte Falcon just because it's an insane car to rally. However, that doesn't fit the bill for Trans Am so I'm going for a circuit racer in the form of Jim Richards 2010 Touring Car Masters winning Falcon. The build is going to be slightly complicated in that I want to run this car in the Presto Park classic as well as the CSCRA Trans am Series so it will have a standard George Turner chassis for Presto and something a little more "racey" for Trans Am.

Ok, lets go through the parts:-

From George Turner:-

A nice clean body that only needs a little flash removed with a scalpel, Grill, Bumpers, Glass, a Lightweight interior, two Part chassis and some decals (that I won't be using) - I don't think wheel inserts are included (apologies to George if I'm wrong) but there is a wide range available on George Turner's Website for £3.50 a set (which ones you need depends on the wheels you use).

The other part I've got from George is an adjustable front end that will allow me to alter the guide lead - good value at £5.00.

If Pendles live up to thier normal excellent standard the running gear should arrive tomorrow and we can complete "The Naming of Parts"
