I apologise for my posting regarding Pendle's new chassis.

There is an issue regarding duplication of design BUT I should have discussed it in private rather than making a public accusation.

The horrendous four hour journey home from Wolves didn't leave me in the best of moods.

My apologies Sean.

Hello, Started out with this pile of parts. The D3D chassis parts I had been wanting to give a try to see how it worked. The body is from Munter and a very nice casting.

The wheels are from RS Slot, the front tires are some Ninco classics and the rears are Michael Ortman.

Chassis fit together with some 1/16th brass.

Here is the chassis with all the running gear. Got the yellow wall warts in place to mount the body. Just have to cut them to length and straighten them up.

So then I set about grinding off the molded lights, made some of my own as there were none in the spares box. Added marker lights, a gas cap and wind screen. Did not use the interior that came with the body kit as the cat made off with it. Used Testors paint, primer and Guards Red. The decals are left overs from a Penelope Pitlane kit. Inserts are RS Slot. Used some photo etched hood latches.

Used some Higgins Sepia Ink for some of the panel lines. Still too dark and I need to work on that.

The chassis is very light and the car runs very fast and quiet. Regards, John

artists matt varnish.

I was in "the works" today and they had small aerosol cans of matt artists varnish. the instructions said it was it was suitable for oils , acrylics etc etc but I wonder if it would be ok with the mix of finishes that seem to end up on my efforts (acrylic , enamel blah blah blah). it was only two quid a can but I wondered if anyone had used it themselves before I blow the bank at monte carlo?!

Ok time to build something funny wink.gif

I had this idea for a while, a slotversion of a 'Spijkstaal' SRV shop truck as it was used in the Netherlands until somewhere in the 80's.
It was like a mobile grocery store.
It is realy something out of my youth tongue.gif

It would be fun if it goes like hell so I have the idea to put it on a NSR shassis LOL.

Maserati 250F Streamliner

We were discussing the streamlined version of the 250F at last weekend's Early Birds meeting, are whether it was eligible, as no one was quite sure if it had competed in a Grand Prix.
Most of us remembered it practicing at Rheims in 1956 but not racing, however I can confirm that it ran in the 1955 Italian GP driven by Jean Behra (chassis 2518) and finished 4th.
Harry Schell also drove it to 5th place in the non championship Syracuse GP. It's 3rd and final appearance was the following year at Rheims.
Here, the team were unable to get the combination of a 5 speed gearbox and the servo for the disc brakes working effectively, and the car was not used for the race.
These seem to be the only 3 appearances of the car as it was soon after destroyed in a fire at the factory.
Dennis Jenkinson wrote at the time : When the car was being warmed up stationary, the heat from the enclosed exhaust pipe invariably set fire to the paintwork of the top of the body panels.
It was standard practice for a mechanic to stand by with a can of water and pour cold water over everything as soon as the paint started to blister.
Thus the streamlined car gave a good imitation of a steam laundry.
Entertaining it must have been, and certainly eligible for future EB meetings.

its , erm , different.

Mixed Grid from the 30s and 50s

Just thought I'd post recently finished builds. There are two prewar Maseratis, the Alfetta which raced before and after the war, and the early Maserati 250. With the 8CTF, I experimented with brass wire to form a radiator grille. Result? Epic fail, but at least I know to use jewellers' wire next time! As I couldn't enter it for a Concours d'elegance, I've opted for Scrapheap Challenge.

Just got an overseas parcel from my friend George Turner. I had ordered the Heavyweight Jag, and really looking forward to it.

Well the parcel arrived today, and im not sure what happened to it.
Could have been rugby, footy, or even ice hockey.
Never seen such a sadly abused package arrive from the posties lets see who can kick it furthest, or the airlines we can squeeze it in if we use the hydraulic doors..

Surprise, opened the one part of the box up, as the other end was already ripped open.
Thank George, it was packed to, his high standards, Not a fracture, scratch or missing part.

All arrived in perfect condition,,, except for the box.

Thanks George for protecting my stuff so well for shipping.

All the best

Hi sirs,

It is an attempt to approximation to the piece, servant of you tried to create drawing room .. and sanding but a crazy .... and caulking even more.

Another thing is to have done it ....

The model 166 was the culmination of the first Ferraris

Achieving unprecedented successes in competition, which formed the basis of the Ferrari legend ..

In this case I tried to play a long wheelbase .. 2620 mm..but dress company Allemano ..

Allemano name Serafino, founded his company in 1928 in Turin and evidently to be called so and being Italian put it ... "Carrozzeria Allemano" which closed its doors in 1965.

After World War II was perhaps his best, such as the Ferrari, Alfa Romeo 2500 in 1950 or Lancia aurelia at 52.

in November 1947 the Earl Sterzi became the owner of the creature and the whim took with Nando Righetti cumming one Mille Miglia ... only it did little pq saw the holy wafer

Well the thing is just ... in 1950 the car was sold to another aristocrat (up to category pq this was Baron ..) Mr. Stefano La Motta, who took a few laps with buggy Sicily

and here the story the Baron died in 1951 ... and the car is just tb

She was scrapped

Bugatti T50S Le mans 1931 - Wheel base?

I'm gathering info on a future build, and I'm after some consensus on wheelbase for the Bugatti T50's that ran at Le mans in 1931. There were a team of three entered all in black bodywork.

So far I have come across two conflicting measurements one at 122" (3099mm) and one at 3500mm. Quite a bit of difference! can anyone confirm either dimension? or suggest others with sources?

... "THE CAR" ... Scratchbuilt movie slot car ...

Hi there all..
After working many months on this scratch build as well as others, I finally finished this build of a Movie car called "THE CAR". This was to join my other Movie and TV related slot car collection.
This build is based on a car from a 70s Movie called "THE CAR". The original car in the movie, was based on a Ford Lincoln Continental 2 door sedan. Fortunately Chase Cars now produce one in resin.
I contacted Gareth of Chase cars to see if he could supply me with a damaged body, as there were so many body modifications, I did not want to use one of his excellent good, resin ones.
He supplied me with body, which I thank him for..... So the build was on...

The Photos I have posted are just a representation of the different stages of the build. If I had posted every one I took, there would be so many more.

The final photos are of the finished "CAR"....I hope you like them.
All the best.. Martin.

James Hunt March Hesketh

Just a few pics of my second build this year, on my mission to build some of James Hunts f1 cars 4 down 2 to go, Built using an excellent resin she'll from DNQ, penelope pitlane chassis, pendles Hubs and tyres, old scaley rear wing and some left overs from the decals box. And not forgetting the airbox kindly donated by Tedm.

I've tried to replicate loosely the car from the early races of the 1973 season. Just a quick question for those in the know I'm sure I read somewhere that they used to run this car on Goodyear on the back and Firestones on the front is this true ? I didn't have any Firestone decals so went with goodyears on the tyres ? Looks ok I think

Hi,

Last week I finished my first build of 2015. It is a version of the Ferrari 312 B3 driven by Jacky Ickx in 1973. The shell is by DNQ (nice one Simon), chassis Penelope Pitlane, wheels and tyres Polistil, decals are from various companies and the wings are my own creation.

Forgive the number of photos.....

Until next time,
Philip

Peter's ongoing builds

My modelling is erratic to say the least, with cars started, abandoned and others started instead, on a regular basis. Occasionally one gets finished, but like many folk on this forum, I have a vast number of cars on the go, and an equally vast number lined up.

I thus have decided to start a continuous thread covering all builds, both new ones and those re-visited.

It would be pointless listing cars on the go, I’ll just post as things happen.

This first post is confined to the five cars on the table today, they will change in a day or so. Some new ones will appear, others will kind of fizzle out. For a while.

A brief introduction below, hoping to be a bit more informative in later posts.

In the image below, the car in the foreground is a Mercedes 300SL from Le Mans 1952. The body comes from Spain, and I believe is a copy of the Slot Classic model of some years ago, This body has requires a lot of work so far. The kit is pretty basic, but does at least include wheel inserts.
The wheels were from the spares box, and machined to take the inserts, with my own wheel nuts fitted. The chassis is a modified PCS, with the rear motor mount re-aligned to permit the gears to mesh properly. The guide is Scalextric, the gears came with the PCS chassis. This body came without mounts, so the long saved resin sprues from George Turner’s kits have at last been put to use.

Behind the Mercedes is an MGA, or to be exact, EX182. One of the MGs entered for Le Mans in 1955, this car is based on the SCX car. The SCX models have countless errors, but the body is pretty good, and as those who have the car will know, it goes quite well too. Started years ago with a Lindberg body, this project makes slightly faster progress in its SCX form. Standard chassis, except for the wheels of course.

Next to the Mercedes is a Ferrari 121, the body coming from the same supplier as the Mercedes. Again, this has required a lot of correction, mostly pin-holes along the lower areas. The rest was pretty good. This is mounted on an MRRC Sebring chassis, for no reason other than that it ‘was there’.

The last car, behind the Ferrari is one of the new Ocar Triumph Dolomites, bought only because I can use a 1970’s saloon. A standard PCS chassis is used (not for long) together with the Minilite wheels supplied. I’m now researching the car raced by Leyland in the 1977 RAC TT at Silverstone that year. pictures of cars with identifiable wheels appreciated.

All the above are running. well, sort of.

Last but not least, and briefly mentioned in Sandy’s thread is the Thunderbird. This is based around the Gunze Sangyo kit for a 1963 Thunderbird. The kit floorpan is used a s a chassis, a Slot it sidewinder pod is used, together with a home-brew steering sub-assembly.

Well, that’ll do for a first post, though there are other cars on the go which will be introduced in due course.

Peter.
