Hi Guys.

I have been looking on Google for far to long this morning.

I am looking for pictures of a 1959 Impala Grand National race cars. The kind of thing driven by Rex Wright.
Someone built one for Bordo but the images have gone.
It doesn't have to be Rex, I just fancy making a convertible Nascar
Thanks for your help

Was in the Exeter branch of Poundland this morning and spotted some model car kits made by "Grafix",There were 3 different kits on the shelf.

Italian Sports Car, Berlinetta.
British Sports Car, GT Sports Coupe.
German Sports Car, Sports Lite Series.

They are sold as "scale" kits but nowhere on the box does it say what the "scale" is.

As the kits come with paint and brush, I thought that they were worth buying, no matter what the scale they turned out to be.

Getting home and opening the box's the kits look to be 1:32 scale.

The kits are basic, the "Ferrari" is a more or less one piece body shell, the "Aston" a two piece body shell split longways down the centre line, while the "Mercedes" is a three part body shell with two side pieces and a bonnet, roof, boot section. None of the kits have any glazing. These area's could be painted black to make them similar to the Scalextric "Super Resistant Cars".

Aston Martin DBR9 GT1

For the 4th edition of the Oxigen Le Mans 24hrs and in the best tradition of Anglo Dutch co operation, Sports Carazing (mr Gary Skipp's team which he so gallantly withdrew in 2014 to make room on the grid for others) and Racing for Holland have joined forces once again.
We will be running a 2005 ASTON MARTIN DBR9 GT1 with the Union Jack on the sides under the united banner of Sports Carazcing for Holland.

Our 1/32 Aston Martin will sport body work based on the Black Arrow DBR9 which is by far the most "optimised" yet also "best looking" DBR9 available for the 1/32nd slot.

The high level of detail finish and availibility of the lightweight Black Arrow parts will save me a lot of work, but...
...as a self declared scale freak there are still a few differences between the 2007 DBR9 that the Black arrow car is modelled after and the 2005 DBR9 that Aston Martin ran on their return to Le Mans after 50 years.

The main differences being the two extra ducts in the hood and the "bulged" front spoiler that AMR developed for the 2005 LM 24hrs cars in an order to decrease the front downforce.
As this clearly distinguishes the "look" of the 2005 car from all the other dbr9's this will have to be modified..so there's still some scratchbuilding to do wink.gif

Underneath the body we'll be running a further development of the Laser cut GRP chassis I did for the F458 we ran in the Suzuka 1000 race last October in Best, The Netherlands

When time allows it I will be posting updates on both the Body and chassis work in the coming weeks that are left till we race in Henley once again.

to be continued

with kind regards

Hello, here is the Penelope Pitlane/Pendle Slot Bugatti kit.
Started out putting the chassis together. Soldered up all the connecting tabs. The tabs fit together well, but a small amount of solder ensures they will not come apart.

Test fitted the body and then soldered the front axle carrier in place.

Then some sanding, priming and painting.

This was a enjoyable project to put together and runs very well on my Carrera track.

Regards, John

telescopic body mounts

there have been a few mentions of telescopic body mounts lately. needing to knock one up for my current build , a rummage in the box of doom found an old biro inner piece and a chuppa chup stick. they are perfect interference fits to each other and the lolly stick is the ideal material and size to take a screw. on this chassis I rebated the top of the chassis to accept the tube , screwed it in , placed the top section on , added glue and then placed into shell. job done , very happy.

Hi
Now I will explain.
I made this a very long time ago and thought it had been thrown out, Searching through some old boxes I rediscovered it.
Now I'm going to stick my neck out and say that even though it has two brass bolts sticking through the body, enormous rear wheels/tyres (ignoring the fact that the reason for wheel arches had escaped me) Its still looks COOL!
That's it folks biggrin.gif

P.S It ain't half fast!

the poor old metro. it never lived up to the hype and only ever really gained its stripes thanks to the 6r4 , with which it really only shared a name and a few odd parts! these days though the early ones are pretty cool in a "bog basic" kind of way. to carry on my theme of turning some classic old scalextric trash into cute little road cars , I had to have a go at a metro. in usual form they had done a fairish job of the basics but made it a dog in the final furlong!! talking of dogs , that's what I started off with , an old 6r4 that's had been glued together with copious amounts of polystyrene cement and a broken tr7 chassis. its another big budget build.

once I had managed to part the shell , body kit and glass , I set to work cleaning all the rubbish off , filling holes , creating a rear valance and properly shaped sills. I also lost the rear spoiler , this is going to be just a lowly metro city , carved in new details front and rear and opened up the shut lines.

with some body mounts made up it was time to set the ride height. having shaved the tyres and set the axle length , I sat the shortened chassis in the upturned shell with the tyres sitting on 3 layers of masking tape , this has given me the tightest of clearances but I think it will work as me being me it has got to have the right "stance"!!

first guide coat of primer , just to see how much more tweaking is needed....plenty!

but at least the ride height is good!

the wheels are another cheapy cheap job. I wanted to recreate the steel wheel of the 1:1 car and was glad I save d the wheels off our lads mini skateboards before then went in the bin. spun down on the deremel they make great centres to small scaley wheels with the old middles reamed out. ive also smoothed out the rims a little , they should look ok when painted and detailed.

still plenty to do but coming on now.

Lola T70 Mk3GT

Here’s another build in my occasional series from the 1967 BOAC 500. The BOAC 500 and its descendant BOAC & BA 1000km races ran from 1967 till the late 80s, bringing World class sports cars to the UK. The first race was arguably the best, with famous victories for Chaparral in the race and Ferrari in the World Sports car Championship, who finished 2nd in the race.

But it wasn’t Chaparral or Ferrari who sat on pole position on a typically grey July afternoon at Brands Hatch, it was the white and green Sid Taylor Lola T70 Mk3 driven by Hulme and next to it was the red and white Lola of Surtees that lead the race away from the grid. The T70 Mk3 was derived from the Mk2, an open top car which had won the 1966 Can Am series with Surtees, so much was expected of the Mk3 in 1967. It had an excellent power to weight ratio with a 5.5 litre Chevrolet engine.

What happened next set the scene for the Mk3 T70 over the coming years. The Surtees car came into the pits on lap 2 with flooding carbs, lost 4 laps with frequent returns to the pits and never figured in the race, while the Hulme car led the race for a big piece of first hour but was sidelined first by a broken rocker then by clutch trouble. In 1968 the Mk3 T70 became basically a customer car and was eclipsed by the Ford GT40 of JWA and the works Porsche 907/908 team. Its Mk3B derivative finally came good at Daytona in February 1969 when the Roger Penske team placed first and second with their beautiful dark blue models. All in all it was an opportunity missed – nice car, shame about the race.

This model was adapted from a Top Slot resin body of the ’69 Penske Mk3b, as models of the earlier car are impossible to find – or at least they will be until the mystery manufacturer mentioned by MRE in their recent reports comes up with a new model! The Mk3 is superficially very similar to the Mk3b but there are very many detail differences and the biggest by far are the front lights and the width of the body. Tyre width increased a lot between 1967 and 1969 and this lead to big increases in body width at the axles, not only for the T70 but also for the GT40 and the Porsche 908. Here’s an early plan of the Mk3, a shot of the Top Slot body and my primed body.

As ever, the first month was spent scraping away in some places and building up others.

I soon found out that my scraping at the wheel arches was removing them completely so I started to build up extra body on the inside. This time I tried using Araldite resin glue, as I’d run out of regular resin. The end-point was bizarre – I’d built whole wings and headlight areas out of Araldite. Here’s an example – every clear bit has no original body left.

Here it is ready for the top coat

.. and the end product

Here’s a few details.

I wanted to use a Fly Lola Mk3b as a donor car but it’s way too big – around 1/30 instead of 1/32, so I had to do a fair bit of surgery on the chassis. Even after all that, the only way it fitted was with reduced width tyres – chopped down rear wheels fitted with MRRC Cobra rear tyres, which are pretty much spot on for scale

Note the shortened wheelbase (in progress in this pic) and reduced chassis dimensions – every edge needed trimming. Here are the two cars compared

A few parting shots – with and without the Chaparral 2F (wrong number – should be 1!).

Hope you like it

Dremel 800 - advice required

I have had my Dremel for many years. It is in constant use when scratch building slot cars.

Unfortunately the chuck has fallen to pieces but when I look on Ebay to get a replacement, there is no sign of the type number 800 listed on any of the listings that show new chucks.

Does anyone know if the modern chucks will fit my machine?

Cost of reproducing Body shells?

Hi guys.
Long time guest lurker first time poster.

My lad and I are discussing how to reproduce maybe 5/6 Scalextric Porsche 997 Body sells so we can have a play at painting and making the cars our own for racing at home.

We've seen videos on utube about 2 part silicone moulds and all that but was just wondering what sort of cost would we be looking at?
If it turns out too expensive then maybe buying some second hand cars and sanding down might be the way to go.

Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Simon.

Hi Folks,
Rumours of my demise during the recent house move have been greatly exaggerated (Although I have been ill recently) and I'm back building again albeit in a limited fashion.
First up is my BSB Brabham Alfa BT45 done as Carlos Reutemann's car. This body was sprayed before I packed everything up for the move and after weeks of searching I found it again, ordered decals
from Patto's Place and finished it off. The only slight downer is that I broke off part of the oil radiator / exhaust in the move and cant find the missing bit.

In case any of you are wondering if my new workshop is finished I think I can answer quite definitely no! However work has begun knocking down the old garage to make
space for the new workshop to be built. This is what it looked like this morning.

However the good lady has allowed me to use the dining room as a temporary storage and build area as long as
a) the dining table is covered and protected
cool.gif no spraying indoors
so here are a few ongoing build projects resurrected onto the dining table.

Mostly seventies F1's ( I can't let Holger catch up too much now can I ?) Shadows, Tyrrells, Ferrari 312B3 and Hesketh 308C bodies all by DNQ, two more BT45's from BSB,
A BRM H16 and Ferrari 801 by PreWing and two Merit / Smer conversions using RS Slot Racing chassis. I also have about 8 GT Models cars to get started on!

Even managed to make use of five minutes warm sunshine outside the back door to put some primer on a few of them

And a quick top coat on the 1/24th SMER Alfa body.

Got to do some chassis and tyre work for Earlybirds at the weekend so probably wont pick up on these again until early next week.
Cheers
Phil the Wolf.

Gunze Sangyo Caddie for a £10, dropped in a Slot.it rear pod, epoxy a guide holder from brass tube and she's ready to go. Chassis even clips into body so (so far until a few offs) no need for body mounts yet.

creating headlights with paint

I was going to cut out the headlights and recreate in detail on my metro refurb but decided against due to the fact it would probably take me a week. plan "b" is to just paint them on but I don't want to do just silver them as per the original scaley car. has anyone any tips on how to create a more realistic look with paint? I have seen them done with decals but I don't have that facility. the rears I'm going to do in clear red & orange over silver.

while in a craft shop earlier in the week (mrs zz wanted some ribbon!) , I picked up some great little bits & bobs for pennies. best of the bunch are the pack of stick on "gems" , which are approx. 4 & 5 mm and unusually not faceted , making them perfect for headlights and spotlight lenses. the paper stud kind of things will make awesome hubcaps or spotlight cases with the legs cut off. the tiny eyelets should make round tail light bezels , large inlet trumpets etc. the other "jewels" are faceted but I picked them up as they have great chrome backs which could ne used in lights & mirrors.

I think these are the same stick on gems (but only 5mm) but so cheap!
